THE NUMBER OF NIGERIANS IN FOREIGN
JAILS HAS REDUCED MAXIMALLY – Alhaji Aminu Wali
Between
2009 to 2011, statistic shows that, number of Nigerian serving various jail terms
all over the world stood at 3,123 while 1,640 others are on the detention list
for different offences.
According
to a statement issued by the ministry of foreign affairs yesterday in Abuja,
the figure has been reduced maximally within the four years of president
Jonathan’s administration. “In past administration, many country loses
confidence on the integrity of our great Nation due to the then stemming
increase in number of Nigerian serving various jail terms all over the world.
The good news today is that the 3,123 Nigeria serving jail term in foreign land
has reduced to 1000”. According to the minister, the success was accorded to
the stronger relationship build between Nigeria and other nations of the globe
by the president.
The
minister added that, most of the Nigerian who ran into trouble abroad was those
who went there illegally and equally engaged in activities that ran contrary to
the laws of the host nation. “Many of those languishing in jail are said to
have been involved in criminal activities like drug trafficking, human
trafficking, prostitution, armed-robbery, credit scam, foreign currency
counterfeiting, formation of criminal cartels and cultism.
