GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE FOR ALL PROGRESSIVE CONGRESS SPOKE ON STATE OF EDUCATION IN TARABA STATE
Speaking
with some journalist recently in Jalingo, gubernatorial
candidate for All Progressive Congress in Taraba State, Senator Aisha Jumai
said the alarming draw-back of education in the state is poverty –driven and
the parental apathy to take their female children to schools.
“other
reasons for the regrettable situation” she said, are the bad shape of our
schools in the rural areas, lack of incentive to teachers and poor teaching
staff and equipment as well as the need for enlightenment of the rural parent who
don’t see education as the primary project for their children.” Poverty being
their major hurdle, Senator Aisha said, the parents need to be encouraged in
many ways, “the school must be near their settlements, their children should be
given free lunch, free teaching and free uniform and stationery.
“for the
teacher , we need to train them, equip the schools with libraries and
laboratories, computers, sporting facilities and most of all good incentives
because left to me teachers should earn more than members of national assembly,
but they have to also be real quality teachers”.
“what we
have today in our classes are just birds of assage, not real teachers, and we
need the right caliber of teaching staff who will provide moral instruction in addition
to the academic teaching for them to justify the best reward of teaching we
intend to introduce very soon when elected” the Senator reveal.
