Lapses In Election More Than We Anticipated – Jega   The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nigeria says it hopes to address the lapses witnessed in Saturday’s election to ensure it will not recur on April 11. The chairman of the commission, Professor Attahiru Jega, told reporters in Abuja on Sunday that the lapses witnessed in the election were more than what the commission had anticipated. “We’ll ensure they don’t occur in April,” Jega said. The chairman of the INEC told reporters that the commission had started investigations into what accounted for the difficulties with the Card Readers. He also said that the commission would investigate reports of underage voting from Taraba, stressing that the INEC had instructed that the officials involved should be identified. “Underage voting is against the law. Senate: APC candidate leads Aliyu in Niger According to Jide Orintunsin in Minna, The Chairman Northern States Governors’ Forum, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, is trailing the All Progressive Congress candidate, David Umaru, in the Niger State Senatorial election. Umaru is leading the governor in five of the nine local government areas in the Niger East Senatorial district so far declared by  by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The APC candidate has polled 149, 443 votes, while Aliyu has 46, 459 votes. The INEC Returning Officer for the district, Prof. Ali Audu Jiigam, said Umaru polled 49,519 votes in Chanchaga local government, the council of the governor who scored 17,209 votes. In Gurara local government, the Aliyu recorded 6,520 votes as against the APC candidate’s 18,887 votes, while in Shiroro, Umaru got 27,191 votes and Aliyu garnered 7,519 votes.   Jega, APC fault Fani-Kayode’s 23 states claim     Jega The All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega  have faulted the claim claim by the Spokesman of the Jonathan Campaign Organization, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, that the PDP is winning the presidential election in 23 states and has scored 64 per cent. The APC in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed referred to the statement by Jega on Fani-Kayode’s claim.   Ondo: Tension over alleged plan to manipulate election results   According to a report posted by a group on "The Nation" indicated that there is anxiety in Ondo State over the delay on the final announcement of result of the last saturday election result by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr. Segun Agbaje. Although some returning officers had announced the results in some senatorial districts, but that of Ondo central where Governor Olusegun Mimiko hails from has not been announced or brought to the collation centre. Journalists who had besieged the collation centre at St Peter’s College, Akure since around 8.00 a.m had to leave, while no action was going on at INEC office, Alagbaka as at press time.
