A Nigerian journalist with DW Radio Service, Germany, Faruk Muhammad Yabo shared the sad story on Facebook: "The story of this under-aged Maimuna an orphan of Birnin ruwa village in sokoto who was raped, impregnated and abandoned by one Alhaji Giwa of the same village as accused, is very touchy.  Maimuna who is 8 month pregnant, has nobody to cater for her pregnancy in this very young age. She is now helpless her father died since, and the person accused of impregnating her denied before the upper sheri'a court in sokoto, but Maimuna insisted that Alhaji Giwa as accused, was the only one who impregnated her.   The two witnesses from the same village have attested before the court that Alhaji Giwa even told them that he will take Maimuna to a specialist for abortion, but later changed his mind. LATEST: Pictures of Protesting Kogi state University students against ASUU Strike

    Kogi State University Students staged a protest at the early hours of today in Lokoja against the three months of industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kogi State University chapter. The lecturers had earlier embarked on a strike to demand for their 5 months salary arrears. However after the state government reportedly met 80 per cent of their demands by paying 4 months of the salary arrears, the Union still insisted on getting it in full. The students took to the streets of Lokoja to protest, demanding for the strike to be called off. More photos after the cut

Troops of Sector 5, 27 Task Force Brigade, 3 Division, in conjunction Civilian JTF from Maiduguri on Thursday, June 16, arrested a suspected Boko Haram terrorist, Ibrahim Jagwal, aged 38 at Gishiwa Dabua area of Potiskum, Yobe State. The suspected terrorist who turned out to be the Ameer of the Boko Haram Terrorists at Tumbin Gini, Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State, also led the team to Garejin Audu in Potiskum, where another terror suspect, Audu Ahmadu, (alias Condemned) aged 45 years, was arrested same day. Preliminary investigation confirms that Audu Ahmadu is a Boko Haram Engineer who specializes in repairs of automobiles for the Boko Haram terrorists group. It was further confirmed he was at the garage to repair 2 vehicles. The vehicles were recovered by the team, while the suspects have been taken into custody for onward movement to Joint Interrogation Centre. Hundreds of the Internally Displaced Persons in Bama Camp are at the risk of dying, according to the International Centre For Investigative Reporting. On May 5, 2016, health workers were alerted that some people needed help within the Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, camp in Bama, 70 kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.  (pictured is a plate of soup meant for seven people!) On getting there, five women were seen lying on the ground, some gasping while others were barely conscious. Three of the women were with children, including a little girl sucking her mother's breast while her brother lay on the ground with his head on the mother's leg. The only means of transportation in the camp are handcarts but by the time some were brought to transport the women to the clinic, two of them had died, one of them being the woman whose daughter was still sucking her breast. Rescued malnourished Sambisa Children evacuated

On Monday June 13th and yesterday, Wednesday June 15th, the Executive Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, instructed Empower 54 and Borno SEMA to immediately evacuate the  malnourished children rescued from Sambisa Forest by the Nigerian Army in Bama. Empower 54 has the difficult task of identifying the patients to be moved. Borno SEMA is providing shelter, food and other items for their care while Doctors Without Borders (MSF) are providing medical care. On Monday, over 1,000 extremely malnourished children were evacuated in 15 large school busses to a secure treatment location in Maiduguri provided by the Borno State government. Yesterday, despite heavy rains, Empower 54 was in the rain for over 3hours selecting children to be evacuated and successfully moved over 500 people. Kano governor meets with the husband of woman killed over alleged blasphemy

Kano state governor, Umar Ganduje have met with Pastor Mike Agbahime, the husband of the Igbo woman, Bridget Patience, a deeper life member, who was beaten to death for alleged blasphemy in Kofar Wambai market in Kano on Thursday June 2nd. He met the husband of the deceased in company of the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria CAN (Kano Chapter) & leader of the Igbos of Kano. The governor condemned the act in its totality and condoled the husband stressing that “the killing of his 74 year old wife is illegal, unjustifiable and she is without fault”. TRAGEDY:Newly engaged young man dies in a fatal accident on his way to a wedding in Kebbi State

Adamu Ibrahim Gandi died in a ghastly car accident on Sunday, May 30, on his way to a wedding in Garu Jega, Kebbi State. Before his death, Adamu had already concluded plans for his own wedding. He was born in Lake Dandi LGA of Sokoto State, in 1985.  He is survived by his parents and sisters.  May his soul rest in peace, amen.                                                                     Source: Hausa Times

26 year old Happniess Umaru, has been arrested by the Lagos state police command for allegedly stealing a 7 month old baby at the Ijora area of Lagos state on March 16th. According to a report by Vanguard, Umaru was intercepted by some police officers patrolling Eric Moore road Surulere. When he was questioned, Umaru first lied that he was the father of the boy but after much interrogation, he confessed to have picked up the baby inside a bush at Ijora Railway where he had gone to answer the call of nature. When the police took him to the area where he took the child, they met with the child's mother, Patricia Victor who said she has been searching for her son since. Narrating how her baby boy disappeared, she said “I laid my seven months old baby (Favour Victor) on the bed inside my house at about 8p.m., to buy food for my son. TWO militant groups in the Niger Delta region have declared their readiness to confront the Federal government in battle for its refusal to release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Director, Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu. The groups, Concerned Militant Leaders (CML) and Niger Delta People’s Democratic Front (NDPDF) made the declaration yesterday in separate statements in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, following reports that there were plans by the Federal Government, to use witnesses in mask, to testify against the leader of IPOB, who was charged of treason in court.
